Mark Benson featured in CIO Magazine: Connected Wearables

by Exosite, on May 26, 2016

Wearables are becoming a hot topic in the consumer industry. Unlike the industrial IoT industry, these devices are hitting consumers at the ground level, enabling wearers to track their daily routines in both professional and personal applications. In a recent article for CIO magazine, Mark Benson, CTO of Exosite, is quoted in several cases as an IoT industry leader on the topic of growth in the connected wearables market.

Surprisingly, even with buzz growing around wearables, CIO magazine notes a statistic from PwC that shows a decline in the percentage of companies investing in connected wearables. "Limited success stories and the risk of failed or ineffective implementations are causing CIOs to proceed with cautious and careful optimism," says Benson. It seems the opportunities are there but companies are struggling to find the right IoT monetization strategy for their connected solutions.

A cohesive IoT business strategy is necessary for a successful, connected product launch. A major part of any company's strategy needs to be centered around how and where to hit the market they're targeting. "Wearables in the enterprise today are finding most traction where there are safety and operational efficiency benefits," says Benson. "In these industries, the risk of downtime due to failed components is high, the sensitivity to employee safety and security runs deep, and the resulting potential benefits are significant." Taking in all of these factors and seeing the larger picture is essential for a company entering the IoT marketplace.

Established in 2009, Exosite was on of the first IoT platform providers to hit the scene and, as such, has developed best practices for assisting companies from start to finish with their connected product deployment. Exosite offers a scalable, flexible, open, enterprise-ready, software platform that enables manufacturers to design, develop, deploy, and support connected product fleets. With resources including IoT monetization strategies, guided IoT sessions, and transparent support libraries, Exosite is driving business transformation for organizations worldwide.
