M2M Access Kits Released

by Exosite, on September 25, 2012

This summer we have been working with Synapse Wireless and Arrow Electronics to bring M2M kits to the market that are a great starting point for developers and product companies that have a need for local wireless devices (2.4 GHz or 900 MHz) communicating through a gateway to a cloud data/device platform and have a web UI attached to it. (Yes, that's a mouthful.) We've always found the Synapse RF engines and SNAP operating system / application framework to be really useful and easy to pick-up, so we were excited to do this combined effort and take some of our work on the RF Engines and E10 gateway and get it out there for developers.

There are currently 3 kits, 2 are evaluation kits with two nodes/proto boards and a gateway, one being 900 MHz, the other 2.4GHz. These include sensors so within minutes you will have the temperature, photocell, and other data flowing to a web dashboard. You can also control two LEDs remotely to show how you can remotely control products and configure them. The third kit is a wireless Modbus reference kit and includes a Modbus temperature controller that is read and data posted to a web dashboard. All of these kits are meant for customizing, both at the device level software and also at the cloud level, whether it is creating custom web views or script applications to interact with the data.

Synapse Wireless® - Arrow Electronics - Exosite Launch Cloud-Based, Wireless, M2M Solution

Arrow’s M2M Access Platform combines Synapse’s SNAP® Mesh Network and Exosite’s Cloud Connectivity

HUNTSVILLE, ALA., September 6, 2012 - Synapse Wireless, Arrow Electronics and Exosite announced today a new machine-to-machine (M2M) solution for cloud-based, wireless monitoring and control using commercially available components – the Arrow M2M Access kits. These kits allow the user to focus on application development while shielding network complexity issues from the user. The SNAP mesh network automatically forms and connects to the Exosite Cloud via the SNAP gateway. The customer is then guided through a step-by-step process to create their working solution in less than an hour. The M2M Access Platform enables the customer to remotely control LEDs and temperature monitoring across the Internet via an intuitive web browser or take remote temperature readings via a cable-less, Modbus device.

Satisfying the pent-up demand for M2M applications (often referred to as the Internet of Things) requires a different business model encouraging collaboration among technology suppliers.

“Arrow’s comprehensive M2M ecosystem brings suppliers together to create an integrated solution to help our customers accelerate their time-to-market from a convenient and trusted source,” said David West, Vice President of supplier marketing and asset management at Arrow Electronics.

“With Synapse, companies no longer have to worry about how to get their data to the cloud,” added Wade Patterson, CEO and founder of Synapse Wireless. “SNAP automatically forms a mesh network with any other SNAP instance it sees, including gateways, and transparently ties into backend services like Exosite.”

“Putting a single device into the field and getting data from it sounds easy enough," said Mike Aanenson, General Manager of Exosite. “Now try adding 1,000 or even 100,000. Together with Synapse and Arrow, we offer a scalable M2M solution designed to meet or surpass the projected market need for billions of intelligent systems over the next few years.”

Availability and Introductory Pricing
